Introducing New Google AMP Addon – Get More Accurate Mobile Analytics

With nearly 60% of all web traffic now coming from mobile devices, it’s crucial to make sure your analytics is tracking those visitors correctly.

Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) is an open source initiative with the goal of making web content load faster for mobile users. If a significant chunk of your traffic comes from mobile searches, then adding Google AMP support to your site can help you rank higher in search results and improve the user experience for mobile users.

But there’s no denying that AMP comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to your analytics.

At MonsterInsights, we’re committed to helping you and your business stay on the cutting edge of what’s possible with Google Analytics.

That’s why today we’re excited to announce the release of our brand new Google AMP addon.

How the New Google AMP Addon Works

Our new Google AMP addon is easy to use. You can just install and activate it from the MonsterInsights » Addons menu, or download the plugin from your MonsterInsights account page. There’s no need to configure any settings, it just works.

The addon includes several features to make tracking your AMP visitors more accurate than ever.

Firstly, it allows site owners to track users visiting Google AMP pages inside of Google Analytics. This is something that the normal Google Analytics script doesn’t even do.

Our addon also includes full support for other MonsterInsights features:

  • Using the Performance addon to adjust sample rates? We’ll automatically apply those to AMP.
  • Using the Custom Dimensions addon to segment your Google Analytics with the 9 built in (and counting) dimensions? We’ll automatically include those dimensions, in the same order in the AMP extension.

Session Unification – Stop Double Tracking Visitors

Another big feature of our AMP addon is called “session unification.”

Here’s how it works:

In normal Google AMP Analytics, a user who visits an AMP page and then a normal page (or vice-versa) would be considered two different users. This is because AMP and normal Google Analytics use different cookies to store the identifying user ID.

Through a unique use of the WordPress REST API, found in WordPress versions 4.6 and up, we automatically map the sessions to each other, reducing your bounce rate, and offering a more complete and accurate representation of your site traffic.

The Google AMP addon is now available for all Plus and Pro license holders. Click here to get started with MonsterInsights today.

That’s all for this update. As always, thank you for all your support and feedback in making MonsterInsights the best Google analytics WordPress plugin.

We’re working on many more new features and addons, so stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook and subscribe to our email newsletter to be the first in the know.
